Soap Is Cheap

Hi, I'm Bo Lumpkin and I've been thinkin'.

I reckon we are a lot of things in America and wasteful is sure one of them.

Leonard was tellin' me about bein' homeless and how he learned to get enough food to eat that folks throwed away to keep him from gettin' hungry.

"When I said I get eight dollars an hour and all I can eat for workin' for the city I was jokin' a little but folks sure do throw away some pretty good stuff."

I had noticed already that Leonard was dressed pretty good and had on a nice pair of cowboy boots.  He commenced to tell me about how he accumulated stuff, " Everything I have on was throwed away by somebody.  I ain't had to buy no furniture for my apartment since I got one and I ain't had to buy no clothes.  I even got some right pretty decorations in my place too."

I was kind of squeamish about usin' stuff he got out of the trash and I said, "Ain't that stuff kind of dirty?"

He just smiled and said, "Sometimes...but soap is still pretty cheap compared to clothes and furniture."

I reckon Leonard might have just had a point.  I reckon he convinced me enough that I told him if he run across another pair of boots like his in a size 11 that I might just be interested.

I'm Bo Lumpkin and I've been thinkin'.  I reckon one man's trash is still another man's treasure, especially when you work on a garbage truck and you get first choice at it.

Can't Hold It

Hi, I'm Bo Lumpkin and I've been thinkin'.

I told y'all I'd share some more of Leonard Gilmore's adventures as a Sanitation Engineer
(garbage collector) in the big city.

Leonard was downright enthusiastic about his job. I was downright impressed that he was so career oriented considerin' the way he used to be. He lit right in to telling me all about his job.

"Heck Mister Bo, I found out that us collectors know more about folks secrets than the FBI or the CIA." He had aroused my interest so I asked him what he meant.

"Well, fer instance," he said," There is a widder woman on our route who kind of turns up her nose kind of persnickety like at everybody and especially at me and the boys on the truck. We used to be intimidated by her but not any more."

I asked him why he wasn't still intimidated. He had a kind of silly grin on his face," We took a good look through her cans and found out she goes through three or four of them grown up diapers everyday... and we ain't about to be intimidated by a prissy woman who can't hold her own water."

I'm Bo bumpkin and I've been thinkin'. I'm gonna be a whole lot more careful about what I throw in the garbage can from now on. Whatchall been thinkin'? Leave me a comment or send me an
email. I've got a few more stories Leonard shared with me.

With Fringe Benefits

Hi, I'm Bo Lumpkin and I've been thinkin'.

I've been thinkin' about the economy just like everyone else. The jobless rate is terrible so I reckon it's good to have any kind of job.

I was down at the Grab-Sum-Grub drinkin' a YooHoo when Leonard Gilmore came in. We hadn't seen each other in awhile so he sat down to chat and said he was on vacation. Leonard was one of them young folks who couldn't wait to get out of Gatorhead and head for the big city. He was really gonna set the world on fire but I reckon his matches was wet..

When I asked him what he was on vacation from he said he was workin' for the city as a garbage collector. I don't look down on nobody's job as long as it's honest and moral so I asked him how it was going. He answered," Purty good I  reckon, he answered. "It pays 8 dollars an hour and all your can eat."

I admit I was a little shocked at that answer until he continued," Yea, I was homeless until I got that that job and I learned a lot livin' on the streets."

He then commenced to tell me about some of the other benefits of being a "Sanitation Engineer" that I hadn't ever thought about.

Y'all come back  tomorrow for more insight into his new vocation.
Be sure and share this with your friends. There is plenty of Gatorhead to go around for everybody.

Hank's Hotline- Hank knows Shock Collars

The Legal Department of Gatorhead Enterprises wants to go on record to say that we do not recommend using shock collars on humans...even humans who are in need of training.

Hank- The Man with all the Advice

I agree with Hank.  Why should he give free advice that cost's him business.  Most handy men charge more to fix a project that you have already messed up anyway.

Sympathy Advertising

I think that this would be a good advertising tool for some companies.  Just let the customer know you feel their pain.  Car dealerships could send cards that say things like Page 1 "So sorry for your current situation"  Page 2  We know it's hard driving around in a clunker so why don't you come by and see us for a new ride".
The possibilities are endless.  Tasteless maybe but endless.

CAN YOU TAKE IT?

Lately I have found that there are a whole lot of folks that like to dish it out but can't take it. I think this is especially true in politics. When one side uses something it is constructive criticism but when the other side uses it they call it "hate". I reckon that confuses me because I don't understand how anyone can hate anybody. Sometimes I don't understand how some criticism is constructive either.

Just Thinkin'

Hi y'all, I'm Bo Lumpkin and I've been thinkin'.

We have a whole new year comin' up and I reckon the big question is what do we plan to do with it. I'm more or less a spontaneous type feller that kinda just gets up and lets the day take me where it wants to. Bein' retired sorta gives me that luxury. I do have goals though. I actually accomplished some things last year in spite of my serendipitous ways. I got my studio set up (though not quite finished) and I am makin' progress on remodelin' the Rooster Roost, my man cave. I did cut my postin' schedule back to somethin' a little more manageable. I ain't tryin' to post 20 different things a week, and I'm havin' more fun doin' it.

I have some plans for next year too. I am still goin' to work on improvin' my artwork and I am goin' to try to do a whole lot more writin'. I plan to make some videos and I still hope to do some simple animation. I want to continue to support the other webcomics and their creators and do my best to promote them because everyone has been so good and encouragin' to me.

I really appreciate all of you who have supported me and encouraged me over the past couple of years that I have been doin' this. I am goin' to be tryin' to show my appreciation a little more during the coming year. You folks have been awesome and there was a time this year (when I was havin' brain trouble) that I was about ready to quit but many of you really encouraged me and gave me a boost. I especially appreciate all of those who did guest strips for me and I plan on acknowledging that even more in future blogs.

I reckon what I've been thinkin' is that I'm gonna try to get up each day and be the best Bo Lumpkin I can be and help all the folks I can to be the best that they can be and everything else ought to take care of itself.

Whatchall been thinkin'? Leave me a comment or write me an email to bo@bolumpkin.com and bolumpkin@gmail.com. I sure do like hearin' from y'all.

Back To Thinkin'

Hi, I'm Bo Lumpkin and I've been thinkin'.
I have been explorin' and workin' with some new things and different things for the comics and for the blog. You will still be seeing some of the old standby's with the same look but I am going to try to add some new looks to Winston, Kurt and Burt and maybe even Edna and Mildred.
I will be be posting these on the Gatorhead site on Monday's Wednesdays and Fridays... not in any particular order for each comic. I am going to use this page mostly for blogging and sharin' my thoughts on things. Also I plan to post some of my earliest videos here for those who are new and might not have ever seen the videos and I plan to make some new videos soon.
I have a lot of plans and a lotta stuff in the works but sometimes that thing called life happens while you are makin' other plans. Y'all can see what Winston has to say about Kippling if you click on the Gatorhead sign below.

Guest Creatures of Habit

The National Free Press’ Editorial Cartoonist. Spilling ink on drawing boards since 1979. Delivering the funnies to the masses through the printed pages since 1988. This is the awesome MJ. MJ has some awesome stuff and you can find it at

http://blog.nationalfreepress.org/NFPCartoonist/

MJ’s cartoons and illustrations can be seen throughout various media sources internationally.

The National Free Press (Canada)
The Nashville Free Press (U.SA.)
Newsblaze Publications (U.S.A.)
Newropeans Magazine (Paris, France)

The cartoons produced through PC Studios have been featured in “Best Editorial Compilations”, Comic books (U.K., Britian), and Anthologies as well as newspapers, magazines, and exhibitions through Museums and Galleries.

MJ is extra talented and has been a great source of inspiration to me. He has been a fan of Creatures of Habit and actually his guest comic blows me away. Those that have graciously donated guest comics have done such a good job that I am going to feel a little self concious when I start back to posting my own stuff.... Oh wait.. I have always felt self concious so for now just be sure and check out MJ's stuff.

"The Rooster Roost"

Renovation and furnishing of the new Gatorhead Studio and my man cave, the Rooster Roost are coming along great. If I could just get over this mental block I have I could begin using them.
These is a drafting table I picked up at a rummage sale for $8. The wooden filing cabinet was $2.
This is a desk I picked up at a yard sale for $3. I wanted to keep my roll top desk at the other house. I still have a little work to do on it.

This is the Kitchen in my man cave. I will update with more pictures later.

This will be great for napping and watching TV in my man cave. I haven't got around to decorating the wall behind the couch yet.

This is the corner I have been decorating in my man cave, The Rooster Roost, Here are some more of them

I certainly can't blame my productivity on the fact that I don't have a good place to work. Maybe when I get it completely finished the creative juices will begin flowing again.
I have more pictures and I might post some of them later.

TRYING NEW THINGS

This was my first painting. I figure I am still young at 60 yrs and it is not too late to learn how to do something new so I decided to try my hand at painting.

This was my second attempt and I made the tractor too close up. I should have had more surrounding it and put it on a smaller scale. I am learning from my mistakes.

The Colonel

This is a picture of me...as the Colonel back in 1982 before making a personal appearance. I can't remember what for. Just thought these might be interesting to look at while I catch up on the Men In Gray comic.
