Soap Is Cheap

Hi, I'm Bo Lumpkin and I've been thinkin'.

I reckon we are a lot of things in America and wasteful is sure one of them.

Leonard was tellin' me about bein' homeless and how he learned to get enough food to eat that folks throwed away to keep him from gettin' hungry.

"When I said I get eight dollars an hour and all I can eat for workin' for the city I was jokin' a little but folks sure do throw away some pretty good stuff."

I had noticed already that Leonard was dressed pretty good and had on a nice pair of cowboy boots.  He commenced to tell me about how he accumulated stuff, " Everything I have on was throwed away by somebody.  I ain't had to buy no furniture for my apartment since I got one and I ain't had to buy no clothes.  I even got some right pretty decorations in my place too."

I was kind of squeamish about usin' stuff he got out of the trash and I said, "Ain't that stuff kind of dirty?"

He just smiled and said, "Sometimes...but soap is still pretty cheap compared to clothes and furniture."

I reckon Leonard might have just had a point.  I reckon he convinced me enough that I told him if he run across another pair of boots like his in a size 11 that I might just be interested.

I'm Bo Lumpkin and I've been thinkin'.  I reckon one man's trash is still another man's treasure, especially when you work on a garbage truck and you get first choice at it.

The Right Tool

Hi, I'm Bo Lumpkin and I've been thinkin'.

I've been telling y'all about Leonard Gilmore and his adventures in the city as a garbage collector. He really had some yarns to tell.  When we first started talking he mentioned bein' homeless and I  asked him about it.

"Well, when I first got to the city I went to work as a bouncer in one of them exclusive night clubs where they don't let just anybody in."

I didn't doubt that none since Leonard had always been a big old boy who didn't mind a scrap one bit. He went on with his story, "Well, I was mindin' the door one night when this guy wanted in and didn't have no pass. I told him he couldn't get in and he ups and kicks me in the chest and walks on in. He bowed to the crowd of folks and said,' Kung Fu from China,' and the whole crowd laughed."
"I just straightened up and went back to mindin' the door and the same thing happened later with another feller only he bowed to the folks and said,' That's Karate from Korea,' and they all laughed again."

It seems like this was startin' a trend because then a little fellow just walks up, grabs my wrist, and throws me to the ground. He bowed to them clubbers and said," That's Judo from Japan,' and they all laughed again."

"Well by then I'd done got plumb fed up so I got another feller to relieve me at the door and I went to my truck to get a little help. When I went inside all three of them fellers was sittin' at the bar just laughin' and jokin' and high fivin' each other and just havin' a big old time. I walked up behind them and about the time they looked up and saw me in the mirror-blap-blap-blap- and all three of them hit the floor and layed there in a pile. I might not have got fired if I hadn't turned to the crowd and bowed and said, 'Lug Wrench from Ace Hardware."

Well, I'm Bo Lumpkin and I've been thinkin'" I know Judo, Jujitsu, Karate, and a few other foreign words but there just ain't no substitute for a good tire tool. Whatchall been thinkin'?

Can't Hold It

Hi, I'm Bo Lumpkin and I've been thinkin'.

I told y'all I'd share some more of Leonard Gilmore's adventures as a Sanitation Engineer
(garbage collector) in the big city.

Leonard was downright enthusiastic about his job. I was downright impressed that he was so career oriented considerin' the way he used to be. He lit right in to telling me all about his job.

"Heck Mister Bo, I found out that us collectors know more about folks secrets than the FBI or the CIA." He had aroused my interest so I asked him what he meant.

"Well, fer instance," he said," There is a widder woman on our route who kind of turns up her nose kind of persnickety like at everybody and especially at me and the boys on the truck. We used to be intimidated by her but not any more."

I asked him why he wasn't still intimidated. He had a kind of silly grin on his face," We took a good look through her cans and found out she goes through three or four of them grown up diapers everyday... and we ain't about to be intimidated by a prissy woman who can't hold her own water."

I'm Bo bumpkin and I've been thinkin'. I'm gonna be a whole lot more careful about what I throw in the garbage can from now on. Whatchall been thinkin'? Leave me a comment or send me an
email. I've got a few more stories Leonard shared with me.

With Fringe Benefits

Hi, I'm Bo Lumpkin and I've been thinkin'.

I've been thinkin' about the economy just like everyone else. The jobless rate is terrible so I reckon it's good to have any kind of job.

I was down at the Grab-Sum-Grub drinkin' a YooHoo when Leonard Gilmore came in. We hadn't seen each other in awhile so he sat down to chat and said he was on vacation. Leonard was one of them young folks who couldn't wait to get out of Gatorhead and head for the big city. He was really gonna set the world on fire but I reckon his matches was wet..

When I asked him what he was on vacation from he said he was workin' for the city as a garbage collector. I don't look down on nobody's job as long as it's honest and moral so I asked him how it was going. He answered," Purty good I  reckon, he answered. "It pays 8 dollars an hour and all your can eat."

I admit I was a little shocked at that answer until he continued," Yea, I was homeless until I got that that job and I learned a lot livin' on the streets."

He then commenced to tell me about some of the other benefits of being a "Sanitation Engineer" that I hadn't ever thought about.

Y'all come back  tomorrow for more insight into his new vocation.
Be sure and share this with your friends. There is plenty of Gatorhead to go around for everybody.

The Legal Department of Gatorhead Enterprises wants to go on record to say that we do not recommend using shock collars on humans...even humans who are in need of training.

Hank- The Man with all the Advice

I agree with Hank.  Why should he give free advice that cost's him business.  Most handy men charge more to fix a project that you have already messed up anyway.

Hank's Hotline Revisited

Hank's Hotline was another feature I used to insert from time to time.  This is one of the earlier posts of  Hank's advice.

In case you haven't been able to keep up with my postin' schedule lately then join the club.  I  have actually been postin' kind of randomly.  I posted on all three sites one day this week and I plan to post on two sites today.  If you want to keep up you can always sign up to receive a notification of the posts in your email.

I spent a lot of time makin' jewelry yesterday and I will post some pictures of the new styles on the "I've Been Thinkin'" page.  I will also post several installments of Rocky's World there next week.

I will try to post some new comics next week on my Gatorhead page

Sympathy Advertising

I think that this would be a good advertising tool for some companies.  Just let the customer know you feel their pain.  Car dealerships could send cards that say things like Page 1 "So sorry for your current situation"  Page 2  We know it's hard driving around in a clunker so why don't you come by and see us for a new ride".
The possibilities are endless.  Tasteless maybe but endless.

Monkeyin' Around

These are some more of the early comics featuring Hank the Handy Man and his rusty sidekick Buster.  I had a lot of fun with this two for awhile and then kind of got side-tracked.  Maybe some day I'll do some more with these two.  I really think I miss Shirley the Monkey more than the others.

Way Back Winston

Winston The Wise was another one of my earlier creations that I still use every once in awhile.  I have actually enjoyed going through my comics.  When you have done over 1200 you have a tendancy to forget some of what you have previously done.

I have been posting a lot more often and I am achieving what I had hoped to achieve.  I am getting more followers,  more hits and more feedback and interaction with the viewers.

Next week I will be having a contest to help promote my Jewelry and get more viewers for all my sites.  I will be giving either a copper ring or set of earrings to the first twenty people who blog about my jewelry...or comics and put a link to any of my sites in my blog.  I will post the rules on my jewelry site and leave them there until I have 20 winners.

In other news I have been pretty busy with personal business and family situations this week and have not had a chance to be very creative.  I haven't made much jewelry but I intend to work on some this weekend.

Hopefully it won't be too long before some new comics appear.

Thanks so much for your support.  The comments and interaction with you is what makes this all worthwhile.

Way Back Yonder

This is one of my earlier attempts at cartoonin'.  For a while I was doin' a series called CPR...the Couch Potato Report featuring R.E. Cline and his wife Dee.  Dee's last name was Light untile she married R.E.  She went from Dee Light to Dee Cline just by sayin' "I do".

This blog was just sittin' here empty without me puttin' anything up and I figured  I would post some of the antique comics here for those who haven't seen them or don't remember them.
This comic was actually inspired by a conversation between my wife and I when we were watching the news.  I commented on how the news lady was always smilin' and I guess you can figure out the rest.

My newer blogs and jewelry pictures are posted at
www.bolumpkin.wordpress.com

My newer comics are at

Since I now have an internet connection at home I intend to get all the use out of it that I can. :)

Artwork?

I decided I was going to try some paintings for our Craft Booth this weekend.  I had thought of doing some of the animals I had been drawing and my wife said that Owls were a big seller.  I started to draw a realistic owl to paint and she said no, they were buying the cute owls in funky colors.  This is my first attempt at cute in funky colors.  They are done on canvas in acryllic paint.  The jury is still out on whether they will sell or not.

New Character

I have been doin' some experimentin' with drawin'.  While I do want to improve my artwork as a whole I also want to do some simple stuff in a little more cartoon type way.  When I first started cartooning a few years back someone told me I should find a style I like and stick with it.  I don't think he is around any longer.  I got some great advice from a lot of people and a lot of encouragement from some others and it has kept me goin'.  One of the best pieces of advice I got was from some of the greatest and that was "The main thing is to have fun and enjoy it."  I have been doin' a whole lot of that later.

As you read this I will probably be working on my new medium, sliced Cypress Knees.  These are roots from Cypress trees that I cut into disks and then draw the faces and pictures I see in the wood grain.  A friend of mine went to the swamp yesterday and brought me back four large ones and I can't wait to get them cut up and start workin' on them.

I decided to name the Weiner Dog  Frankie.  I think it fits.  You will be seein' some more of him later, either here or on my comic site at www.gatorhead.wordpress.com.

I am gettin' a little more productive but I am not ready to commit to postin' more than twice a week on the Gatorhead page yet.  I want to build my buffer up.  I use this blog to catch the overflow and I might be moving it to a wordpress sight soon because I have trouble answering the comments on here.

It won't hurt my feelin's none if yall tell me what yall been thinkin'.

Woman with A Bucket

My wife has a ceramic figurine of a woman and she asked me to draw it.  I used the figurine as a model and this is what I came up with.  I am thinkin' of drawin' some kind of background with a well and drawin' her into the picture.

Worthless Woody

Jerry Weaver, a facebook friend, told a story about Worthless Woody.  I thought this might be a good rendition of what Worthless Woody would look like.  I took a picture of this with my camera which really doesn't like pencil sketches so I will probably post him again after I ink, scan, and color him.

Sketches

During my recupperation time this weekend I finally found time to do some drawin'.  This is a Hawk I drew in pencil.  I intend to draw him again in ink and then maybe try to paint him with my Bamboo Pen and pad.  I will be sharin' some stuff from my sketchbook this week if I can.  hope you enjoy.

Copper Necklaces

These are some neclaces I made from beads and copper.  You can substitute a chain for the suede.

Wood Art

This is from a Cypress Knee.  I sliced it and saw a face in the grain of the wood.  I decided to ad a few touches and this is what I came up with.  I have more that I will be posting next week here.  I have found, ducks, turkeys, dogs, bears and other faces in the grain.  Some of them look crude and rough but I just try to bring out what I see in the wood.

Pendants For Necklaces

These are made using copper wire and either beads or marbles.  You can either add a chain to make a necklace from them.  ( I have added chains to some of them.)

These are Cypress Knees from the Delta swamps.  I cut them into medallions and made these.  We have a lot of tourists coming through following the Mississippi Blues Trail and I thought they might want to take home a piece of Mississippi.  I also have put an eyelet in them and attached a leather chord to them to either use as a necklace or to hang somewhere.

There will be more pics later in the week.
