MERRY CHRISTMAS
Things sure have been hectic around here during the holiday season.
It seems like the last few years either my wife or myslef has either had to be in the hospital or were gettin' ready to go in right after the first of the year. That will kind of take your mind off celebratin' and just about everything else. This year ain't been much different but things are lookin' up. My wife had some tests this week but thankfully everything turned out .
I'm writin' this ahead of time because Christmas is gettin' close and just in case something else happens I want to make sure to say Merry Christmas to all my readers.
You have made this one of the best years of my life and I've had a lot of good years. Thank all of you for visiting this site and especially thank all of you who take the time to comment.
I don't know no better way of sayin' it than to just say it...
MERRY CHRISTMAS to all of you and Thank you.
Bo

HAPPY THANKSGIVING
Hi y'all, Im Bo Lumpkin and I'm real thankful.
The comes strip today gives some of the characters an opportunity to tell what they are thankful for and I want to do the same.
I'm really thankful to the Lord for all his blessings but especially for my family and friends. I think I have the most wonderful family in the world and I have some mighty fine friends.
I am also thankful for all my fans and all of you who have made my writing and drawing be such a pleasure. I especially want to thank my followers and those who have put my link on their site. I thank all of you who leave comments. They really enhance what I am so feebly trying to do. Thank you all for your support.
You might not know it but if you click the name of those who leave comments it will usually take you to their sites. Be sure and read the comments, some of them are funnier than the comics. if you click on the pictures of the followers it will usually take you to their profile with links to their sites.
I am amazed at the number of people with real talent that visit here and leave comments. I am humbled by their interest and d do really appreciate all the help and inspiration I have received from them.
I'm Bo Lumpkin and I'm so thankful. What shall thankful for? Leave me a comment or write me an email to bo@botumpkin.com or bolumpkin@gonail.com .

Heeerrreees Shirley
My wife and spend a lot of time on weekends going to rummage, yard, carport, garage, and about any other kind of junk sale anyone has. She collects tea pots, dolls, and crystal. I mostly just collect dust and do the heavy lifting' and drivin' unless I find somethin' I can't live without.
Last weekend I found a sewing machine for $5. I just couldn't pass that up. This weekend I found another one for $ 6 and I couldn't pass it up either. This might sound like a good deal but there is a problem. I don't know nothin' about sewin'. I would get my wife to teach me but she don't know no more than I do.
I like to practice what I been preachin' about bein' able to learn anything you put your mind to, so I reckon I'll learn how. I tried to look up stuff on the internet and got more confused than I was when I started. The first thing I read was about how to thread a bobbin. I thought bobbin' was what the red, red, robin came along doin'.
I ain't learned how yet but I will. I did learn that a ceramic cat will break when you drop it on the pavement. My wife learned something too. I might be alright for the heavy liftin' but not with the breakable stuff.
I'm Bo Lumpkin and I've been thinkin', I could sure use a good video on how to thread a bobbin'. Watchall been thinkin'? Leave me a comment or send me an email to bo@bolumpkin.com or bolumpkin@gmail.com.

Studyin' Grammar
Hi y'all I'm Bo Lumpkin and I've been thinkin'.
I'm still tryin' to improve my communication skills. I was readin' my English book last week when my grandson came in.
"Whatcha doin' , Papaw? "he asked.
I told him I was studyin' grammar.
"Whatcha studying gramma for? You've been married for 38 years. Don't you know her by now?"
I reckon I could have taken the opportunity to tell him a thing or two about understandin' women but there were some within hearin' distance and I didn't think it safe at the time.
"No, that ain't what I mean. I'm tryin' to improve my language." I said.
He looked shocked, "You ain't been sayin' ugly words have you, Papaw?"
"'Naw, that's not what I mean. I'm just trying to get to where I can write better and use the proper English and all. I want to be able to communicate better."
He smiled and patted my arm," Just write like you talk, papaw. You always make me understand what you mean."
I'm Bo Lumpkin and I've been thinkin', sometimes kids can teach you a lot. Maybe we ought to listen to 'em as much as talk to 'em.Whatchall been thinkin'? Leave me a comment or write me an email to bo@bolumpkin.com .

HIGHER LEARNIN'
While I was studyin' my new English book I bought I realized just how dangerous my writin' has been. Someone could have easily been run down by a stampede of run on sentences or injured by a dangling participle. I might have to start puttin' a warnin' label on my website. WARNING BAD GRAMMAR IN USE. Read at own Risk. Someone could wind up with a conjunction.
If had paid more attention in school I reckon I would have learned some of this stuff. The problem was that no one made me want to learn it.
I believe a good teacher is not one who knows the answers to the questions but one who makes the students question. Most of the time in the classroom is spent with notes going from the teacher's notebook into the student's notebook without ever going through either one of their brains.
Most of my teachers never made me want to learn. A student's curiosity must be stimulated. I reckon what I'm sayin' is the old sayin' "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink," is wrong. You can make him drink if your give him enough salt. You have to make him thirsty, he'll drink. My teachers never made me thirsty.
I reckon after a while I got thirsty on my own and the water of knowledge is pretty satisfyin'.
I'm Bo Lumpkin and I've been thinkin' I hope all this learnin' don't mess me up. Whatchall been thinkin'? Leave me a comment or write me an email to bo@bolumpkin.com.

LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE
I don't reckon you get too old to try learnin' somethin' new and I'm always tryin' to improve my communication skills. Somebody suggested that I ought to learn a foreign language so I bought me an English Book.
This wasn't my first attempt at a foreign language. I took Latin in high school. As a matter of fact I took two years of Latin. That is if you count taking Latin I twice as two years. I didn't pass the second time either. Before I came along no one had ever failed Latin, twice, a record I think I still hold today in my old alma mater. (That's Latin)
About all I learned was that Latin truly was a dead language. I think that my teacher was possibly in on the assassination. The good part was that I might have been spared a career as a lawyer.
I did learn a few words though. I can say "Britania est equus" I think it means England is a horse.
I hope as I study English it will improve my writin' skills, help to find the answers to some deeply disturbing questions that I've had for a long time or is England really a horse? The most important thing that keeps me awake wondering is, what in the world is a gerund?
I'm Bo Limpkin and I've been thinkin'. Whatchall been thinkin'? Leave me a comment or send me an email to bo@bolumpkin.com.

A TIME OF HOPE
This should he a time of hope for everyone. President Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize for what the committee thinks he might do someday. Michael Jackson is still filling theatres regardless of all the bad press he received, not to mention that he's done passed on. Elvis is still King after being dead for over 30 years. People are still watching reality shows.
Brett Farve is going to play football until he draws Social Security and the New Orleans Saints are undefeated midway through the season. I'm about two and half months away from my 500th blog entry and two years ago I thought a blog was the star of a 1950's horror movie.
I reckon by now y'all are wondering' if there is a point to this? (I sometimes wonder 'bout that myself.) The point is that people need to quit whinin' and start doin'.
You ask." Doin' what?"
Doin' something you've always wanted to do . Do something that will improve your life or somebody elses. Think about it, none of them people I mentioned would be attracting one bit of attention if they hadn't done nothin' but sit around and whine because times is hard.
I'm Bo Limpkin and I've been thinkin'. Whatchall been thinkin'? Leave me a comment or send me an email to bo@bolumpkin.com.

CROP FAILURE
After old Bodie left the Grab- Sum- Grub Sheriff Rupert P. Rhondo came in. We told the tale that Bodie had told us and he laughed a little and turned real serious.
I reckon all the farmers are havin' a pretty hard time. All this rain has pretty near ruined a lot of the crops".
Everybody around the table was noddin' in agreement and he went on talkin'. " I pulled a feller over on the highway because he was drivin' a little bitty old pickup truck and he had it so loaded down with soy beans the tires were bulgin' and the back bumper was nearly draggin' the ground."
"I asked him if he didn't think he might be a little over loaded." He answered me with the saddest look you ever saw," I guess I ought to be, I've got 50 acres of beans on this here truck."
Yep, times are hard on everybody. One farmer who raises corn told me him and his two sons ate five acres of corn for lunch one day.
I'm Bo Lumpkin and dive been thinking'. People keep talkin' about hard times and I think they might be on their way. Whatchall been thinkin'? Leave me a comment or send me an email to:
